rain rain go away...

another wet and dreary day here. i'm hoping all this rain will mean we will have lots of pretty flowers and a great veggie crop this summer. we'll see how that goes. our veggie garden is looking good thus far (with 4 tomato plants, lettuce, peas and green peppers growing already).

last night i went into the city to attend my uncle's viewing. unlike my friend's mom's funeral where i really only knew my friend, most of the people last night were related to me. thankfully it wasn't as bad as i anticipated. the evening went well. it was sad yes, but mostly it brought memories of my mother and my family back to my head. i don't really keep in touch with much of my family, so it was a bit odd. they tend to think i live out in the sticks (i don't) or am too busy (not too busy really). one of my  cousins suggested calling one of them to ask to come and visit. so while i was there, i mentioned visiting my one aunt (my mother's sister and my godmother). she replied with what sounded to me like an excuse that it might be hard to catch them at home. i thought about it a lot on the drive home. i miss spending time with people who remind me of my mother and of when i was growing up. but otoh, my family, now, is the one i have at home with me. my children, my husband and the friends (and family) who do keep up with what we are doing. the ones who know that i am not too busy to speak on the phone and who know i do return emails (and phone calls).

maybe it was last night's full moon that had me thinking of these things. but it was a good chance to think about things. and i'm glad i went of course. even better that i had the chance to reflect on the whole event and the family issues i have had (albeit small ones compared to other families) on the drive home alone.
