it's so random

my dad is a world traveller. before my mum passed away, they travelled together within the usa, and once to aruba. they did a lot of day trips to the NJ casinos (my mum's health dictated that they stay closer to home). they had dreams of travelling farther afield,  but alas that didn't happen in my mum's lifetime.

recently my dad returned from a ten day jaunt to egypt. i'm so pleased he's been able participate in these trips. my nan hates that he's away. but she told me last month that she's glad that he's had the opportunity to do these trips. he travels with a church group and they always have organised tours.

we get to hear all about his travels when he returns. and he is able to experience places and foods and events he hasn't before. he's been to russia, sweden, france, greece, jamaica, through the locks on the panana canal, on wine tours in sonoma, california. he's done two cooking tours in the south of france and one in italy. he's had vodka tasting in russia, walked thru st petersburg, taken a cruise on the nile.

and my dad always brings us back treasures! an apron from sonoma, tea from greece, a beautiful scarf from egypt, nesting babushkas from russia, vodka and rum, coffee and magnets. and lots and LOTS of postcards and photos.

the egyptian souvenirs have been fun. the translations amuse us on the postcard books and the coin/stamp catalogue. the coin/stamp catalogue covers beckons us with : "Welcome And I Hope To You Spend Nice Time Egyp" (sic) i am NOT mocking the translation. in fact, i am embracing the egyptian idea of welcoming visitors. my dad said the people were very friendly. many had friends and family in the usa.

i would love to visit egypt. it's somewhere i have wanted to go for so very long. since my daydreaming days of being an archeologist days. i am fascinated by the history, the pyramids, the nile, the food and the people. that along with st petersburg and greece, one day i hope i too can travel the world!!
